SHELTER
SUPPERS - PARISH OUTREACH
-
One of the significant
things we do as a parish in outreach ministries is a monthly supper
for the Spooner Homeless Shelter in Derby, CT. On the fourth (4th)
Sunday of every month, two or three couples, individual volunteers or
one of our church groups prepare a meal
and deliver it to the shelter. Sharing is a major aspect of the
Christian life. The Spooner House, after almost seven years of
searching, planning, designing and building in now housed in a new
location at 30 Todd Road in Shelton
-
As a
parish, we practice our Christian responsibility by engaging in
programs and services designed to meet the needs of those less
fortunate than ourselves. The Spooner Shelter Supper is but one of
these missions. The need is real, and participation in this
service is rewarding. As with many programs of this nature, there is
always room for more of us to contribute our time and talent. We
invite you to participate.
-
Sandy
Bremer is the coordinator of this ministry. In seeking
volunteers, she posts a list on the undercroft bulletin board with
the dates for the forthcoming year when the Shelter Supper is our
responsibility. People are needed to fulfill this
undertaking each month. If you wish to participate,
place your name on the sign-up
sheet posted on the undercroft bulletin board, or call Sandy
Bremer at (203) 256-8865. We sincerely thank you for your involvement in
this very important and rewarding experience.
-
We
also have sponsored a child - Ndiguimon Ndigyeallah - through World
Vision. Letters from her are posted on the bulletin board in the
Undercroft. Our sponsorship gives her the opportunity to go to school,
get an education, grow strong and healthy, and fulfill the life God
intended.
-
Other
areas of outreach are: Operation Christmas Child in November, and The
Angel Giving Tree in December. More information about these two programs
will be forthcoming in October.
-
Our
Love Shelves empty frequently and need donations as well as remembering
the Rector's Mission Fund. Food coupons are a great way to purchase an
extra item or two. If you have doubts about what food items to purchase,
please refer to the list posted above the Love Shelves. Your assistance
makes a difference at crucial times in people's lives.
